Acknowledging National Coming Out Day
“Coming out isn’t just a one-time conversation… it’s a lifelong process.” -John Sovec, LMFT. Most LGBTQ+ people will tell you that coming out isn’t just a box that gets checked because you had The Conversation with family members. Coming out is a million little moments, from starting a new job, going on vacation and considering whether or not to hold hands with your partner, seeing a new doctor, calling a venue to make wedding plans, moving to a new area…
… the list goes on.
In this timely, heartfelt interview, John Sovec, LMFT, talks about the coming out process on a continuum, and offers helpful guidance and advice to clinicians who work with this population. John also discusses the traumas associated with coming out, and how this shapes thoughts, feelings, and actions related to coming out.
